Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about CricketGuessr — the daily cricket guessing game.

🎮Getting Started

What is CricketGuessr?
CricketGuessr is a free daily cricket player guessing game. Every day at midnight IST, a new mystery cricketer is revealed. You have 8 tries (or 6 in Hard Mode) to guess who it is using 7 attribute clues: Country, Role, Batting Style, Bowling Style, IPL Team, Age, and Formats.
Is CricketGuessr free to play?
Yes, completely free! No account, no sign-up, no downloads required. Just visit cricketguessr.com and start playing. Your progress is saved locally in your browser.
When does a new puzzle appear?
A new mystery cricketer is available every day at midnight IST (Indian Standard Time, UTC+5:30). The puzzle resets for everyone simultaneously.
How many players are in the database?
CricketGuessr features 279 cricketers from 14 countries, including current internationals, IPL stars, and all-time legends. The database covers players from India, Australia, England, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Ireland, Netherlands, and Nepal.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes! CricketGuessr works on all devices — phones, tablets, and desktops. It's also a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can install it on your home screen from your browser for an app-like experience.

🏏Gameplay

How do the color clues work?
After each guess, you get color-coded feedback on 7 attributes. Green means an exact match. Orange means close (e.g., same bowling category like "Fast" vs "Fast Medium"). Gray means no match. For Age, you also get ⬆️ or ⬇️ arrows to tell you whether the mystery player is older or younger.
What does "orange" mean for each attribute?
Orange (partial match) works differently per attribute. For Country: same region (e.g., both from SENA or both from Asia). For Role: related role (e.g., Batter vs Opening Batter). For Batting/Bowling Style: same category (Right-arm Fast vs Right-arm Fast Medium). For IPL: there is no orange — it's green or gray. For Formats: partial overlap (e.g., "Test, ODI" vs "ODI, T20I").
What is Hard Mode?
Hard Mode gives you only 6 guesses instead of 8, and disables the hint feature. You can toggle Hard Mode before making your first guess each day. Hard Mode has its own separate streak and statistics.
How does the Hint system work?
After your 5th guess in Normal Mode, you can unlock one hint that reveals a specific attribute (Country, Role, Batting Style, Bowling Style, IPL Team, Age, or Formats) of the mystery player. Using a hint marks your result with a 💡 symbol when you share it. Hints are not available in Hard Mode.
What are streaks?
Your streak counts how many consecutive days you've correctly guessed the mystery player. If you miss a day or fail to guess correctly, your current streak resets to zero. Your max streak is tracked separately. Streaks are independent between Normal Mode and Hard Mode.
Can I play past puzzles?
Yes! Visit the Archive section from the menu to play any previous day's puzzle. Archive puzzles don't affect your current streak or daily statistics — they're just for fun and practice.

🌍Editions

What are the different editions?
CricketGuessr has three editions: World Edition (all 279 players from 14 countries), India Edition (100+ Indian cricketers only), and IPL Edition (current IPL roster players). Each edition has its own daily puzzle, so you can play up to 3 games per day!
Does the Country clue matter in India Edition?
In the India Edition, the Country attribute will always show green (India) since every player is Indian. This means you should focus on the other 6 attributes — especially IPL Team, Role, and Age — to identify the mystery player.
How is the IPL Edition different from the IPL Team clue?
The IPL Edition is a separate game mode featuring only players from current IPL squads. It has its own daily puzzle. The IPL Team clue, on the other hand, is one of 7 attributes available in every edition and shows each player's current or most recent franchise.

💡About

Who created CricketGuessr?
CricketGuessr was built by a cricket-loving developer who wanted to bring the joy of daily puzzle games to the cricket community. Inspired by Wordle, Spotle, and Poeltl (an NBA guessing game), CricketGuessr was designed specifically for cricket fans worldwide.
How are the daily players selected?
Each day's mystery player is selected from a curated database using a deterministic algorithm seeded by the date. This ensures every player worldwide gets the same puzzle on the same day, and the selection covers a wide range of players over time.
How often is the player database updated?
The database is updated regularly to reflect current IPL rosters (after auctions and trades), new international debutants, and player retirement status. We aim to keep the data accurate and comprehensive.
Can I suggest a player to add?
Yes! If you think a notable cricketer is missing from the database, reach out via the Contact page. We regularly evaluate suggestions and add players who meet our inclusion criteria (international appearance or notable domestic career).
